2016 WESTSIDE AWARDS WINNER
Beit T’Shuvah Addiction Recovery Center
Jury comment: “It’s a complete transformation. It is quite ingenious to tie all the buildings together.”
Jury comment: “It is successful in accomplishing integration of unremarkable existing buildings into a new cohesive whole. It’s that, combined with the programmatic aspiration. It incorporates both the sanctuary and the addiction recovery center—social services.”
This project represents the expansion and renovation of a non profit center in Los Angeles. The intensely tectonic exterior creates a new unified identity for the center while giving dignity and purpose to the mostly young residents. One important project driver was the need for new, larger flexible community spaces and additional offices. The primary gathering space performs numerous functions: resident dining, group therapy, fitness and yoga, and serves as a sanctuary for religious services.
