The landmark circular design of this dramatic Modern-era icon, combined with its highly visible location, enabled the owner to look beyond dated interiors to envision a hip and trendy boutique hotel. Challenges included erasing all vestiges of the outdated hotel and mitigating freeway noise. Glass and concrete sound walls at the base of the building give the hotel an updated aesthetic while isolating public spaces from the freeway. The glass wall also provides a backdrop for a dramatic light show. Inside, natural materials including wood, stone, water and light are used predominantly. The contrast between the slick and modern exterior and the warm and sophisticated interior evokes a sense of adventure for visitors.
